Late Summer, Early Fall

Square

Summer is my favorite season. It always has been. It hosts my birthday, and it’s generally so hot that I complain and wish for winter and then mentally slap myself for uttering such blasphemous words. However, despite making me exceptionally happy, summer also makes me a little sad – usually in the pool while I’m swimming and pondering life’s big questions – because it’s like the seasons’ last big hoorah of the year. Everything is in full bloom and going strong and then it starts to slowly die around August.

About two weeks ago I took some pictures of dying plants around my house and while they make me a little sad, I also think they’re quite beautiful.

Also about two weeks ago, I discovered that Sur La Table had opened up shop at Somerset. I was pretty ecstatic. I found a jar of “mulling spice” on clearance and bought it. I had high expectations for this baby, but sadly it did not live up. The taste was rather bland. Perhaps I need to stick even more of it in the boiling water next time…however, it does make a nice photo.

  1. I feel the same about May (my birthday month), which is autumn here. Nice photos.

        1. How cool! I’d love to visit NZ, it looks like such a beautiful place. Plus, I really want to see the Shire.
